The UFCW Pharmacist Bargaining Committee returned to the bargaining table with Albertsons and Ralphs on August 31 as negotiations for a new contract enter a critical stage.
While we remain committed to reaching an agreement, the companies still have significant work to do. Their latest proposals continue to fall short of addressing the issues you have consistently raised, including wages, benefits, safe staffing, and workplace protections. After months of negotiations, the time for meaningful movement is now.
We also continue to have serious concerns about unfair labor practices committed by the companies during this contract campaign. Those actions led you and pharmacists across Southern California to overwhelmingly authorize an Unfair Labor Practice strike. These concerns remain unresolved and continue to be part of the larger fight for a fair agreement.
Albertsons and Ralphs need to recognize the value you bring to your patients, communities, and companies and come to the table prepared to seriously address the issues that matter most. You provide essential healthcare services and play a critical role in delivering the quality patient care that drives the companies’ success.
What’s Next?
We were prepared to continue bargaining today for the second day as originally planned. However, the companies decided not to meet and instead offered another date on September 8.
That next bargaining session could be a critical moment in this campaign.
If the companies come to the table prepared to make meaningful progress, you could soon have an agreement to review and vote on. But if the companies continue to fall short, you must also be prepared for the possibility of further action, specifically a ULP strike.
You overwhelmingly authorized a ULP strike because you are serious about winning a fair contract. As we approach this next bargaining session, it is important that everyone stays informed, stays connected, and remains prepared for what may come next.
