San Diego's Cannabis Union

Why should cannabis workers choose to form a union?

Workers form unions for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Higher pay
  • Paid time off
  • Holiday pay
  • Health benefits
  • Workplace harassment
  • Unfair scheduling
  • Safety concerns

There are many benefits to having a union contract, including guaranteed rights that the company can not violate. Unionized companies have a Union Representative assigned to their work sites who fights on behalf of the members to uphold the rights designated in the contract.

Protections for Workers Organizing a Union

Union organizing activities are legally protected rights that workers have through the National Labor Relations Act. Companies can not harass, intimidate, or fire employees for trying to organize a union.

Union Workers Earn More!*

  • In the state of California union workers earn on average more per week than their non-union counterparts.
  • Union workers ages 16-24 earn a higher median income than non-union workers of that same age group.
  • Female union workers have a larger median weekly earnings than women working without a union.
  • A higher percentage of union workers have a pension plan compared to non-union workers.

Testimonials from UFCW Local 135 Cannabis Members

"Union membership is important to me because we are stronger together. Employers want to ignore that our labor makes their profits possible. And the union gives us a voice too loud to ignore, and tools and resources for our best shot at a fair fight."

"When workers at March and Ash came together to create a union I felt my job was finally secure. I did not have to worry about being let go for no reason. Everyone was going to receive equal benefits and fair wages with regular raises. Benefits and wages we did not have before!"
