Gelson’s Came Unprepared to Make a Deal
On July 29, we returned to the bargaining table with Gelson’s for our second round of negotiations—and it’s clear they still don’t get it.
Gelson’s prides itself on offering top-tier customer service. Our customers see it, and we deliver it every day. So why is the company proposing less than what was won by our union siblings at Ralphs, Vons, Albertsons, and Pavilions? Make it make sense.
Our proposal includes real raises for everyone, including “red-circled” workers who are paid above scale. But Gelson’s wants to shortchange nearly 10% of us by refusing to increase wages for those historically earning more than the base contract rate. That’s unacceptable.
While we’ve reached tentative agreements on nearly every other issue, we made it clear to the company: we will not recommend any deal that fails to respect ALL workers with fair compensation.
WHAT’S NEXT?
We’re scheduled to meet with Gelson’s again on August 13. Until then, make your voice heard—let your manager know we stand united and won’t settle for anything less than a deal that lifts everyone up.
