UFCW Local 135’s New Headquarters is Now Open!

A new chapter in the history of UFCW Local 135 officially begins today.

UFCW Local 135 is proud to announce that our new headquarters, located at 10075 Carroll Canyon Road in Scripps Ranch, is now open for union business.

After nearly two years of planning, preparation, and construction, this new headquarters represents an investment in the future of our union and our continued commitment to serving members throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties.

The move marks the next step in a journey that began more than 120 years ago. UFCW Local 135 traces its roots to the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen, whose Local 229 affiliated with the San Diego Federated Trades and Labor Council in 1903, and the Retail Clerks, who organized in San Diego beginning in 1917. In 1978, the Meat Cutters and Retail Clerks merged nationally to form the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. In 1986, San Diego’s Meat Cutters Local 229 and Retail Clerks Local 1222 united to form UFCW Local 135.

For decades, Local 135 operated from its Mission Valley union hall. Last year, we sold that property and invested in a new headquarters designed to meet the needs of our growing membership and position the union for the future.

“Our union was built by generations of workers who believed that when people stand together, they can create a better future,” said UFCW Local 135 President Todd Walters. “This new headquarters honors that legacy while giving us the tools, space, and resources to continue building power for working people for generations to come.”

The new headquarters features expanded member service areas, dedicated organizing space, an executive board room, meeting areas, and improved accessibility. For the first time, our main office will remain open throughout the day and will no longer close for lunch, making it easier for members to access the services and support they need.

Regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This move is only the beginning. A second phase of construction will transform the former Cabrillo Credit Union branch on the building’s first floor into a new union hall that will be almost twice the size of our previous meeting space.

“The opening of this building is about much more than a new address,” said UFCW Local 135 Secretary-Treasurer Grant Tom. “It represents confidence in our future and our commitment to the members who make this union strong. This building ensures we have the space and resources necessary to meet the future needs of workers across our region.”

To celebrate this milestone, UFCW Local 135 will host a Member Appreciation Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, August 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the new headquarters.

The free event for members and their families, will feature kids activities, food, giveaways, a DJ, tours of the new facility, and more. Members and their families are encouraged to join us as we celebrate our new home together.

Forward Together, Stronger Than Ever!
