On Friday, Southern California UFCW’s met with Ralphs and Albertsons for the second bargaining session. The afternoon was spent reviewing the companies’ responses to union proposals and the changes they want to make to the contract.
At the first session, pharmacist priorities were clearly laid out. Instead of meaningfully addressing them, the companies focused on rolling back existing contract protections. Even more concerning, they failed to respond to some of your most critical issues including wages, benefits, and staffing.
With the contract set to expire on March 1, the time to stand together is now. Whether at the bargaining table or in the pharmacies, you must show that you are united. Ralphs and Albertsons need to see that you are serious about improving working conditions and securing a strong contract you deserve.
One small way of showing your unity is by wearing your union button every shift. It’s a visible reminder to all that you stand together with your fellow pharmacists.
Additional bargaining sessions are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, February 18–19. Another update will be provided following those meetings.
If you have questions about bargaining or need support, please reach out to your Union Representative.
