May Day 2026 Message

This May Day, we’re reminded that union strength has always come from one place: solidarity.

Solidarity with our UFCW family, standing shoulder to shoulder with our union siblings across industries, contracts, and workplaces. And solidarity with the broader labor movement, showing up for one another in moments that matter and knowing that every fight for dignity on the job strengthens us all.

Over the past year, we’ve seen that solidarity in action. Our members at Kaiser Permanente stood strong during an Unfair Labor Practice strike. That unity helped finalize new contracts for our pharmacy and lab members. That’s real progress built through collective action.

We’ve also continued growing our union. Workers at REI here in San Diego took a powerful step forward, filing for a union election and choosing to stand together for a stronger voice on the job. That is what solidarity looks like.

Here at Local 135, we’re also preparing for the future in a very real way. Our new headquarters is nearing completion. It will be a space that better serves our members, strengthens our organizing, and supports the work ahead.

And just as importantly, we continue to show up for our union brothers and sisters across San Diego. Whether it’s walking picket lines, supporting actions, or standing in solidarity when called upon, we know that an injury to one is an injury to all.

That is what May Day is about. It is not just a reflection on the past. It is a commitment to each other moving forward.

Together, we are building something stronger. Together, we are ready to take UFCW Local 135 into the future.

We encourage all members to join us today for the San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council’s May Day March and Rally at 4 PM at Waterfront Park, located at 1600 Pacific Hwy, San Diego, CA 92101.

Show up, stand together, and express your solidarity by attending the march and rally.

In solidarity,

Todd Walters
President, UFCW Local 135
