Response to Kroger/Albertsons Merger

This morning, Kroger and Albertsons made public their plans to merge into one giant grocery company. This merger will potentially cause a loss of good Union jobs, a loss of market share for Union companies, and will eliminate competition, which in turn will impact consumers negatively.

UFCW Local 135 and UFCW’s across the nation stand united and oppose this move. The UFCW has reached out to the appropriate authorities to voice our strong opposition and is urging that this merger be stopped.

We believe that this merger violates anti-trust laws and will create a grocery monopoly. We also recognize it as a form of Union Busting. We are following things closely and will do everything we can to protect your livelihood and maintain good Union jobs!

This process is a long way, perhaps years, from completion. It will have to get through the Federal Trade Commission, the body that regulates these matters. And there is no guarantee that it will happen.

We will continue to share any relevant news and, as always, we will continue to fight on behalf of you and your co-workers.
