Kroger-Albertsons Merger Blocked!

To Our Members at Albertsons, Pavilions, Ralphs, and Vons-

A federal judge in Oregon has blocked the proposed $25 billion Kroger-Albertsons merger, a massive win for grocery workers and consumers alike. This decision confirms what we’ve been saying all along: this merger would have reduced competition, driven up grocery prices, and hurt workers like you.

The judge agreed with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that this merger would eliminate direct competition between Kroger and Albertsons and that the proposed divestiture of stores to C&S Wholesale Grocers was inadequate. Simply put, the merger would have put profits above people—and the court saw through it.

This victory wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and solidarity of union members like you, as well as the efforts of our allies in labor and the community. It’s proof that when we stand together, we can make a difference.

That said, the fight isn’t over. Kroger and Albertsons may appeal this decision to the Supreme Court, and there’s always the possibility of another merger attempt under a new administration. We need to stay united and vigilant to ensure that corporate greed doesn’t harm our jobs, wages, or working conditions.

UFCW Local 135 remains committed to protecting you and your livelihoods. We’ll continue to stand strong against any threats to our members, families, and communities.

Thank you for your solidarity, and let’s keep up the fight as we move towards bargaining in 2025!

In solidarity,

Todd Walters
President, UFCW Local 135
