Food 4 Less management only met with your bargaining committee for two hours today and we made very little progress. Food 4 Less needs to hear that the workers are willing to stand together and Fight 4 More before they will negotiate fairly.
Yesterday, Kroger announced the closure of two stores (a Food 4 Less and a Ralphs) in Long Beach after the city passed a $4/hour hazard pay ordinance. These were poorly performing stores slated for closure prior to the pandemic but they had remained open because the pandemic brought in additional business.
The timing of this closure announcement was calculated to intimidate workers from standing up for better working conditions and wages. We cannot accept this blatant retaliation against essential workers who are risking their lives to serve their communities and make huge profits for Food 4 Less.
Negotiations continue on February 4 and 18. We’ll keep you updated on the progress.
