Victory for Workers at Better Buzz Mira Mesa!

Baristas and Other Employees Successfully Join UFCW Local 135

Workers at Better Buzz Coffee’s Mira Mesa location won their union election! This victory follows the successful election at the flagship Hillcrest shop, where workers began the campaign by advocating for better wages, fair treatment, and improved working conditions.

On Monday, July 8, baristas, trainers, and shift supervisors at the Mira Mesa location voted to join UFCW Local 135, solidifying their commitment to better workplace conditions. This win is a significant step forward for the employees, who have organized under the name Better Buzz United.

The union election, overseen by officials from the National Labor Relations Board, marks the second consecutive victory for workers at Better Buzz, with the first occurring on May 17 at the Hillcrest location.

UFCW Local 135 is dedicated to supporting all Better Buzz workers in their unionization efforts. The successes at Mira Mesa and Hillcrest are part of a broader movement to improve conditions for all company employees as Better Buzz Coffee continues its rapid expansion across Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada.

UFCW Local 135 Organizing Director Maribel Mckinze stated, “It’s a shame that a company boasting about its rapid expansion and plans to further grow continues to neglect the workers who are the lifeblood of their business. The employees at Better Buzz Mira Mesa have shown the strength workers have when they unite to fight for what they have rightfully earned. While the company has its plans for expansion, so does the union.”
