The United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council, representing more than 180,000 grocery, pharmacy, cannabis, and retail workers across California, today announced its endorsement of Xavier Becerra for Governor.
“Xavier Becerra grew up in a union household and has put California’s workers first as a State Assemblymember, Congressmember, Attorney General and as United States Secretary of Health and Human Services,” said Mark Ramos, president of the UFCW Western States Council and UFCW Local 1428. “UFCW workers are ready to put their boots on the ground to elect Xavier Becerra for California Governor because he understands working people and has consistently shown he is willing to fight for them. Under Becerra’s leadership, we know California will take on the cost of living, create more pathways to the middle class, and continue making progress toward a better California for workers.”
As California’s former Attorney General and former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Becerra has spent his career focused on protecting workers, expanding healthcare access, and holding corporations accountable. He has been a consistent advocate for labor rights, fair wages, and stronger workplace protections across industries.
“Working families are looking for leadership that understands the realities they face every day,” said Joe Duffle, president of UFCW Local 1167. “Xavier Becerra has a strong record of standing with workers, protecting our members, and advancing policies that support good jobs, healthcare, and workplace safety. Our members are proud to support his candidacy and stand with him in this election.”
“Xavier Becerra has consistently demonstrated that he understands what working people need to thrive,” said Todd Walters, president of UFCW Local 135. “From strengthening worker protections to standing up for fair wages and access to healthcare, his record shows a commitment to California’s workforce. Our members are ready to support his campaign because we believe he will continue to prioritize working families and ensure that their voices are heard in Sacramento.”
