UFCW local unions have reached a tentative agreement with Kaiser Permanente
Contract webinars to be held March 16 & 17 with ratification voting March 18-20
Wage Increases
All Alliance unions have secured the same across-the-board wage increases totaling 21.5% over the life of the agreement. This offer includes additional economic improvements such as market adjustments, premiums, longevity, shift differentials and step increases, which bring the total value to 25% – 30% for many UFCW members.
With this tentative agreement, Kaiser members won:
- 21.5% ATB wage increases (plus additional increases) bringing the total value to 25% – 30% for many members
- Improved PSP formula
- Improved equity funding for Kern
- Increased longevity premiums
- Contract alignment across all of UFCW (9 separate expiration dates will be aligned into 1 common expiration date)

Kaiser walked away from the national table and many local bargaining tables in December. The company only returned to serious negotiations after we gave a strike notice and conducted a 3-day strike. Since then, KP continued bargaining until agreements were reached.
Local Bargaining Power
Another important change is that all issues that were previously handled nationally will now be included in local agreements. This means local bargaining committees will have greater control over the issues that most affect members in their facilities and regions, while still coordinating with other Alliance unions when needed.
One Tradeoff
The biggest drawback is that there will not be retroactive pay for the time since the previous agreement expired. However, retroactivity is built into the next contract cycle as part of the transition to the new aligned expiration dates.
Ratification Vote
Voting will take place via text/email beginning Thursday March 19 at 9am, and will conclude at 4pm on Friday, March 20.
