Dear Albertsons Member:

After more than 2 months of bargaining with your Employer:

      they refuse to eliminate the two tier wage structure;

      they refuse to improve health benefits; and

      they refuse to grant respectable wage increases.

Earlier this year both Stater Bros. and Gelsons negotiated new agreements with the UFCW that

provided for the elimination of the two tier wage system, provided for substantial wage increases and

committed to paying sufficient money to make vital improvements in our medical plan.

These contracts were ratified by overwhelming majorities of both Stater Bros. and Gelsons members.

These contracts went into effect on March 5, 2007 and the employees have already begun receiving

their wage increases . . . ending almost 5 years of stagnant wages for our most senior members.

At this point, it is necessary to demonstrate our resolve to your Employer. All local unions have

scheduled mandatory meetings to vote the membership to authorize the chief executive officer to call a

strike, if necessary. Details of the meetings are enclosed.

Your support on this vote is necessary to send a strong message to your Employer that you deserve and

are entitled to a fair contract and that you will accept nothing less. Only a strong strike vote will

convince your Employer to make a fair contract offer.

It is imperative that everyone participate in this critical vote. With the support of you and your

coworkers, we will succeed in returning to the bargaining table with a demonstration of solidarity and

conviction.
