If you do the work, you deserve to get paid.
It’s that simple. Unfortunately, our outdated overtime system gives corporations a free pass to schedule some supervisors and managers for more than 40 hours a week without providing them with any extra overtime pay. UFCW members know that in grocery stores and at retailers, this means fewer hours for hourly workers.
Things are about to change – the U.S. Department of Labor is raising the bar on employers by setting a higher salary threshold for overtime protection. This means that more salaried workers will be eligible to earn overtime when they work more than 40 hours in one week.
Requiring employers to provide more salaried employees with overtime pay will encourage them to hire more workers or schedule people for more hours – a win-win for hard-working men and women.
